What Causes Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?

  • Abnormal collagen structure: It is primarily caused by inherited genetic mutations affecting your collagen production, leading to weakened connective tissues throughout the body.

  • Collagen structure abnormalities: Due to faulty collagen production, tissues become weak and less elastic, affecting the strength and flexibility of joints, skin, blood vessels, and internal organs.

  • Spontaneous mutations: While generally inherited, EDS can also occur due to spontaneous genetic mutations without any known family history.

What Causes Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?

Key Symptoms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

  • Chronic joint pain and instability: Frequent joint dislocations, subluxations, and ongoing musculoskeletal pain are major symptoms caused by weakened connective tissues.

  • Hypermobile joints: Excessive joint flexibility increases your injury risk, accelerates joint degeneration, and often leads to long-term functional limitations.

  • Persistent fatigue and muscle weakness: As there is continuous strain on muscles and joints, it leads to more exhaustion, reduced stamina, and difficulty maintaining everyday physical activity.

  • Skin and tissue fragility: Many individuals experience soft, stretchy skin, easy bruising, slow wound healing, and increased vulnerability to tissue damage.

  • Neurological and autonomic symptoms: EDS may also involve headaches, nerve pain, dizziness, and dysautonomia.

How does Medical Cannabis Work on it?

  • Modulates pain through the endocannabinoid system: Medical cannabis interacts with CB1 and CB2 receptors, helping regulate pain signals, inflammation, and nervous system sensitivity, which is common in EDS.

  • Reduces chronic inflammation: It also helps calm inflammatory responses in joints and soft tissues, which manage pain control and mobility.

  • Supports neuropathic pain relief: Cannabis-based medicines can help manage nerve-related pain, often unresponsive to conventional analgesics in EDS patients.

  • Improves sleep and recovery: By easing pain and muscle tension, medical cannabis leads to improved sleep quality, which is essential for pain regulation and healing.

Other than managing EDS, we are also a trusted choice for multiple sclerosis, knee pain, back pain, and cancer pain medical cannabis treatment in the UK.  So, start your journey with Leva and get access to expert-prescribed medical and compassionate care made just for you!

Data from proprietary sources, including collaboration with researchers from Imperial College and participation in research with Drug Science, indicate significant findings. BP (Pain Severity): 94% of patients reported an improvement in the severity of their pain. The percentage of chronic pain patients who reported any use of opioids decreased from 441 (55.1%) to 177 (22.1%), showing that over half (59.9%) of those previously using opioids had completely stopped. Additionally, more than 50% of patients with indications of major depression at initial assessment showed significant improvement after three months of treatment with medical cannabis and an online pain management program.
